Cardano’s Voltaire era advances on-chain governance

The Cardano blockchain launched in September 2017 with a roadmap to be developed in five different phases. Voltaire is the final remaining era for Cardano and is all about governance, fully unlocking the community’s contributions to create a self-sustaining system.

CIP-1694 is a Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) and is the main discussion point regarding the start of the Voltaire era. It is a key component of Cardano’s next generation of governance, now being designed and co-created with the Cardano community to deliver the on-chain mechanisms which will further empower democratic decision-making across the ecosystem.

To facilitate this discussion with the community, Cardano founding entities EMURGO, Input Output Global (IOG), and The Cardano Foundation are organizing and hosting three in-person workshops in Switzerland, Tokyo, Japan (more detailed information below) and Edinburgh, Scotland, in addition to lending financial support to Cardano community members wishing to organize their own local CIP-1694 workshops.

Gain community feedback and drive CIP-1694 ratification

The Tokyo CIP-1694 event is focused on capturing Cardano community feedback and input into CIP-1694 while also promoting the proposal ratification and aiming to foster engagement and collaboration among attendees in a workshop setting. The Tokyo event kicks off alongside a wider program of community governance events planned worldwide with support from EMURGO and IOG.

To meet this objective, we are seeking diverse representation from across the Cardano community – from educators to developers, SPOs (stake pool operators) to academics. Discussion topics include enhancing community participation, DReps, voting thresholds, community tooling, and more.

EMURGO founder and CEO Ken Kodama will be present to host the event. Kevin Hammond and Andre Knispel from IOG Engineering and Evangelos Markakis from IOG Research will also be attending.
