Q&A with EMURGO Fintech Product Designer Dima
Hello Dima. Please introduce yourself.
Dima: Hi, I’m Dima Kuznets and I’m a Product Designer at EMURGO’s Fintech division.
Tell us about your previous work experience.
Dima: I have been a Product Designer for more than 5 years. In my career, I have been fortunate to work in product design creating various large-scale and specific interface solutions for clients including “The Big 4” global accounting networks, Fortune 500 companies (Nestle, McDonald’s, Subway, Panasonic, Warner Brothers), top automotive brands (SAIC Motor, Toyota, Nissan, Porsche AG), and the world’s largest multinational advertising company WPP.
I also have been able to experience both corporate and startup work environments.
How did you end up working on the Cardano ecosystem at EMURGO?
Dima: I was invited to apply to work at EMURGO through LinkedIn. At the time, I had already been interested in blockchain technology, crypto, and DeFi. While I was still working at my day job, I helped to prepare a cohesive product vision & design strategy for a small Ukrainian crypto startup that eventually helped them to enter different acceleration programs and crypto conferences all over the world. That experience and the rise of really exciting blockchain & DeFi technologies motivated me to move my career from a more traditional design direction to something more innovative. I then had a few interviews with EMURGO, researched a lot about the company and Cardano, and eventually accepted the job offer. One of the key factors in my decision to join EMURGO was seeing how proactive my future teammates (and interviewers) were in recruiting me to join.
How is EMURGO different from other companies you have worked at?
Dima: A few important things stand out:

- I love the fact that I am encouraged to be proactive and propose different ideas and initiatives to the team. This autonomy empowers and motivates me to have a sense of ownership.

- Being a blockchain and crypto company, I also love that we have the option to be rewarded in crypto.

- It’s very important for me to love what I do in my job. Working at EMURGO allows me to work on products related to the Cardano blockchain and it naturally fulfills my interests as well.

- I also admire the friendly atmosphere at EMURGO and especially the Product team. My teammates are the best and I always love to generate cool ideas and solutions with them.
Tell us about how working in blockchain and Web3 is beneficial for your future.
Dima: EMURGO is a top company in the blockchain and crypto industry with a great product team. There are a lot of opportunities for me to develop both hard and soft skills by being here which will bode well for both the company and myself in the future.
What’s been your best work moment at EMURGO so far?
Dima: There have been two special moments at EMURGO that have stood out to me.
The first moment was very touching. About two months after I had joined EMURGO, a full-scale war began in Ukraine which affected millions of lives and hundreds of thousands of homes. In the first weeks of the war, EMURGO founder and CEO Ken Kodama personally wrote a message and sent his condolences to the Ukrainians at EMURGO. He also donated some funds for our families and us. That was very generous and very touching to know that there is a culture of human empathy at EMURGO.
Another exciting moment was when I took the initiative to create a brand and UI vision for our fintech platform suite Anzens in around 2 weeks. The team and users liked it and we started to scale and adopt it.
What are your favorite EMURGO employee perks or benefits and why?
Dima: There are several EMURGO work benefits that I love, some of which I have mentioned.
The people at EMURGO are all super-friendly. Within my team and cross-functionally, people are easy to work with, propose new ideas to, and grow together individually and as an organization.

The ability to drive the work you do and take ownership of your ideas is something that motivates and empowers me. The fact that I am encouraged to take initiative, propose new ideas, and be responsible for the process and results, gives a strong sense of satisfaction.

- I can be very focused and detailed like a bookworm.

- I like to eat mashed potatoes with milk and cutlets. (I know that this combination might sound a little weird to most people outside Ukraine ).
