Could you tell me about your reasons for joining EMURGO?
Jason: It was a confluence of a few factors. My wife and I decided to move to Japan after always wanting to be back in Asia after having lived in China, and as a huge fan of blockchain I was familiar with Cardano and EMURGO. After watching a few of the videos from the EMURGO Youtube channel, I felt like the company culture and team were a perfect fit (I turned out to be right!).
What experience did you have prior to joining?
Jason: While I was growing up, I was involved in many of my father’s startups, so the excitement and thrill of building value from the ground up was ingrained in me from an early age. When I was in college I founded a services marketplace for last-minute help. After graduating with a double major in Chinese and Asian Studies, I led the company as CEO, taking on many startup challenges, from fundraising to marketing. One of our biggest accomplishments was onboarding almost 20 thousand users in just a couple months. I don’t remember exactly when I got into crypto, but at some point I found myself deeply involved at many levels, helping various projects and educating others about the potential of blockchain. Always having a passion for business, finance, and freedom, blockchain is something that closely aligns with my values.
It has now been 3 months since you joined EMURGO.
What’s your role and can you tell me about your biggest achievement?
Jason: I’m working with the advisory team. So far every project we’ve worked with has been unique and our involvement varies depending on the project’s needs, but in general we provide blockchain advisory services to companies that are interested in leveraging blockchain technology and companies that are raising money through initial token offerings, as well as public sector advisory and other related services. I can’t say which project I think has been the greatest success, but it has been awesome being part of each project and watching as they succeed in bringing increased value to their clients and community.
What are your thoughts on the potential for blockchain technology?
Jason: I believe that blockchain technology will usher in a new era of human progress, providing a framework for ethical interaction and transforming core aspects of society. Transparent and enforced blockchain monetary policy will prohibit discrepancies between actors in different positions of control, acting as a check and balance on both the printing of money and the overspending of precious world resources at the expense of later generations. On a more current note, I was part of the Cryptokitties slowdown of the Ethereum network (sorry!) and believe that blockchain will be used in endless ways by the general population, from gaming to industries and markets that we have not yet imagined.
What do you like most about working here at EMURGO?
Jason: I like how driven everyone is, and driven by a shared mission! That’s what is most promising to me about EMURGO. It’s a group of confident and skilled people, set on changing the world.
What do you think about the atmosphere in the EMURGO office?
Jason: It’s great! The perfect combo of lively and serious. The office is very open, facilitating communication and collaboration. The design is super cool as well and we have a recreation room where we can throw some weights around to keep our blood pumping (or battle it out with a quick ping pong game)!
How do you feel about EMURGO’s core values?
Jason: Everyone at EMURGO truly embodies the core values, so I think they’re perfect! I think they are all central to creating value in a fast-changing market and at the same time help guide us to keep an eye on the bigger picture.
Finally, anything you would like to say to those interested in joining EMURGO in the future?
Jason: This company seems to attract the best so I guess I would say I’m excited to meet you!
