In this blog, we talk to EMURGO Fintech Senior DevOps Engineer Ijajahmed Momin about his role and how working in blockchain is different from other industries.
Hi Ijajahmed. Please introduce yourself and tell us about your background.
Ijajahmed: Hello everyone. I’m Ijajahmed Momin. Currently, I’m a Sr. DevOps Engineer with EMURGO Fintech and based in Bangalore, India.
What is your career background?
Ijajahmed: I’ve worked in tech and operations management for more than 15 years, including 4 years in DevOps and 6 years at client locations based in the US. My most recent role before EMURGO was as a “Team Lead” at DXC Technology, a multinational American IT services and consulting company. Throughout my career, AT&T was my client, and most of my job involved automation, scripting, handling client queries, managing resources, and working closely with AT&T management to understand and fulfill their IT requirements.
How did you start your career in blockchain and Web3, and how did you come to EMURGO?
Ijajahmed: I like taking on new challenges and learning about the latest, innovative technologies. I was looking for a role and organization in which I could do both and EMURGO presented a great opportunity to work in an emerging tech field with blockchain. Starting with the interview process, EMURGO informed me about how challenging the role is and that the team needed to perform SysAdmin, DBA, DevOps, and Network duties. This was precisely what I was looking for and enough for me to give serious consideration to start working in blockchain.
The EMURGO LinkedIn company page lists available roles, and I was able to apply directly for a DevOps position. I had a couple of interviews with the Talent Acquisition team and the Fintech team about blockchain development and was assigned to work on tasks to demonstrate my technical skills. Fortunately, I was extended an offer and then I started working at EMURGO Fintech.
What makes life at EMURGO different compared to other companies?
Ijajahmed: Working at EMURGO is special since the responsibilities and technologies are diverse when compared to the restricted job duties and obsolete technologies at my previous organization. At EMURGO, the entire company is like one team, which makes working with co-workers enjoyable and productive. I also feel like I’m constantly learning new things working on EMURGO’s products and services, and with the Cardano blockchain network itself.
Is working in blockchain and Web3 more beneficial to your career?
Ijajahmed: Honestly, blockchain and Web3 were like Greek and Latin to me when I joined. After some training, I came to understand the concepts of blockchain and how to apply my years of technical skills to working on blockchain-based products and services. It has helped me to understand the functionality of our open-source Yoroi Wallet and its functions and features integrating with the larger Cardano ecosystem of products and services.

Describe your best work moment at EMURGO.
Ijajahmed: This happens every week when someone recognizes me for my work. At EMURGO, the company and each team are very close-knit and work closely with one another to achieve our larger objectives. Even though many people work remotely all over the world, we communicate and have clear goals that each individual and team strives to accomplish.
What’s the best EMURGO work perk or benefit?
Ijajahmed: The flexibility of remote working is definitely at the top of the list and the company’s award programs are also great. These boost our productivity.
What advice would you give to those interested in working at EMURGO?
