In this edition of the “Life at EMURGO” series, we talk to Michal Szorad, a front-end developer at Yoroi Wallet, about working at EMURGO to improve Yoroi features and his blockchain career.
Yoroi is an open-source and the first light crypto wallet for Cardano used to send, receive, and store ADA, and is developed by EMURGO.
Hello Michal. Could you kindly introduce yourself?
Michal: Hello. I am Michal Szorad, a senior front-end developer working on Yoroi (mobile), and based in London, UK.
Tell us about your career until now.
Michal: My passion for software development and web security started over 10 years ago. I have spent many days and nights learning new programming languages and paradigms. It’s been a little over 8 years since I got my first job in tech, and I am still learning something new nearly every day. It’s very exciting to continually learn and develop new knowledge and skills, especially in an emerging industry such as blockchain.
How did you start your career in blockchain and crypto, and how did you come to EMURGO?
Michal: My fascination with software and web security as noted above eventually led me to Web3 and DeFi. This then led me to learn about Cardano and EMURGO.
My professional journey before becoming part of the EMURGO team was full of experiences across many sectors usually in smaller startups. I was mostly working on front-end or full-stack positions and in 2017, I put my hands for the first time on a Web3 project. Ever since then, I knew that blockchain and Web3 would be the future of the Web and that there was so much room for innovation.
So, when I got the opportunity to work at EMURGO and solve interesting technical challenges on the Cardano blockchain, I could not be happier. Joining the team and working on Yoroi mobile is very exciting and rewarding. I’m very happy about my decision to join EMURGO.
In your opinion, what makes working at EMURGO different compared to other companies?
Michal: Working at EMURGO on Yoroi mobile, an open-source project, is a very unique experience. On the technical side, I like challenging environments, collaboration, and new technologies. Yoroi’s very experienced team members are always listening and happy to help.

I’ve also had the opportunity to meet very experienced and inspirational people at EMURGO and industry partners.

Describe your best work moment at EMURGO.
Michal: One of the best moments at EMURGO was when I had the opportunity to meet team members in person at a hackathon in Edinburgh. As we typically interact online due to remote working, meeting in person and having a chat about tech and the future of Cardano was very inspirational.
