What-to-Know-About-Intersects-Community-Hubs

These days, blockchain and Web3 have gone global, with their communities composed of users, developers, academics, and professional bodies like Project Catalyst and Intersect coordinating to update and engage with them. Since it is a digital technology, most interactions between members of the community are online-based, complemented by local in-person meetups and conference events.

For these reasons, Intersect – a member-based organization supporting the distributed governance of the Cardano blockchain – has launched a Community Hubs initiative to bring community members together to forge closer connections. Acting as a bridge between the local and global Cardano community, any Cardano community can join Intersect and a local Community Hub to help grow the awareness and adoption of the network as a platform for Web3 products & services.

This blog will discuss Intersect’s Community Hubs further, including how to create one and which ones have already been established.

Intersect Community Hubs: Bringing members together

As one of the largest decentralized blockchain networks globally, Cardano has a global community of millions of users. Thus far, related bodies like Project Catalyst and Intersect have been coordinating to keep their members in touch via online events such as various Catalyst Townhalls, the Intersect Townhall, online events, and other remote gatherings.

However, one of its limitations is promoting and growing the community worldwide. People who attend their online events are already part of the community as existing users of Cardano-based dApps, current developers, etc. Newer members are less inclined to be familiar with these groups.

To address this critical challenge and onboard new people in their respective locales, Intersect has created Community Hubs. From there, members can later participate in the larger online meetings and contribute to the global community. The Hubs are places with a clearer organization, access to educational resources, and the ability to connect with the global Cardano membership. This initiative further enhances the decentralization of the network’s governance by ensuring that local ideas and issues can be represented and considered for Cardano’s governance actions.

How to set up a Community Hub

Community Hubs are set up via a grant provided by Intersect. The people organizing the Hub must hold monthly town halls like those held by Intersect or Catalyst. Additionally, they must communicate via a Discord channel to give updates on their activities and update the rest of the global community.

Each Community Hub will have appointed a manager responsible for the updates and the budget. Part of the grant is an amount of ADA the organizer can use to set up events and organize educational material.

The budget provided for the hub is 20,000 ADA for between 5 to 7 months of activity. This is divided and provided in monthly installments to the manager of the hub. This person is ultimately responsible for the appropriate usage of the funds.

To apply, teams and those interested should apply using this form.

Established Community Hubs

Currently, there are four Community Hubs open:

  • LATAM (Latin America)
  • Japan
  • Sri Lanka
  • Wada (Africa)

There are some regional hubs on the list. People from those continents who want to set up a more local hub in those same places can still apply. As Cardano desires to grow more organically, regional meetups are an important part of this effort.
